I love Britt Baker! She is in attendance in her wheelchair, ready to enjoy the action in the ring. She already looks irritated.
We start with the tag team title match. The champions, Kenny Omega and Hangman Page are reunited and finally defending and they are facing the great team of Kip Sabian and Jimmy Havoc, accompanied by Penelope Ford.
Ford immediately makes her presence known by snagging the foot of Omega and giving Havoc enough of an edge to land a hard shot. It’s good to see Page back and he’s attacking smoothly as he always does. Page has grown so much since the infancy of the AEW brand and could easily a major singles star at any time.
Ford goes for a high-flying move but gets caught by page and gets ejected from ringside. While the referee is escorting her out, Havoc hits both Page and Havoc with a wrench and gets a near fall. The majority of the match is being dominated by Havoc and Sabian, exploiting the ring rust of the defending champions.
Omega gets the hot tag and starts dishing out the abuse to the challengers. Sabian is proving resilient, kicking out of several pinning attempts. At one time, Havoc tries to introduce a hacksaw into the match. It’s ridiculous fun. I hope they give Havoc more time on the microphone. He’s tremendous.
Havoc nearly gets the pin fall on Omega after a DDT, broken up by Page. This match is tremendous. There is high drama here! The champions land the Last Call to retain the titles, but what a match! What a great way to start the show.
